Ten years ago I bought a painting by Ms. Close. I now find I have nine. I did not foresee this though perhaps I should have.

Nothing obvious. Subtle, somber, profound but understated. Surfaces that ask to be touched, color and texture in a delicate changeable symbiosis. Chameleon-like, reflecting. Nothing clever or quick. The more time I have spent with these paintings. The more I have been rewarded by them. While other paintings have lost their savor and impact these paintings do not fail me. I live with them everyday and would not be without them.

I have never fully understood why I am so moved by this work. Why it evokes such varied reactions in me. Certainly its elusiveness is part of its appeal. Truth Honesty Intent.
